About 60% of Peru's national territory is covered by part of the most biologically diverse rainforests this planet has to offer Madre de Dios and the Northern Selva Cusco is a good base to begin explorations of the southern selva, with air and road links to Puerto Maldonado, a remote yet bustling frontier town.
